AMDA Mentoring Program

Thank you for your interest in the AMDA Mentoring Program where physicians new to long term care medicine are matched with mentors who have experience and expertise in areas of common interest.

AMDA created the mentoring program to pair physicians new to Long Term Care with experienced Long Term Care physicians. The pilot program was initiated in 2008 and has proved most successful.  Thus we are pleased to continue and further develop this experience.

AMDA’s mentoring program seeks to cultivate supportive and mutually rewarding relationships between the mentee and the mentor. As the mentee seeks advice and support with career development, transitioning into LTC, and goal achievement, the mentor will provide guidance and counseling, help the mentee set and attain goals, as well as offer encouragement. Mentors have the satisfaction of sharing their experience & wisdom.  As in any teaching relationship, the teacher often benefits from new insights and rejuvenated enthusiasm.

Benefits to the mentee:

  • Professional identity development
  • Career development
  • Direct networking opportunities
  • Development of firm resource base
  • How to implement the practical application of ethical standards
  • Increased awareness of current issues affecting the mentor’s profession
  • Supportive, nonsupervisory discussions of challenging situations
  • An insider's professional perspective on navigating your career

If you are interested in having or becoming a mentor, please fill out the online form: Mentor/Mentee Enrollment Form.

Meet the Expert

In an effort to augment educational opportunities for both mentees and mentors, the AMDA Mentoring Program will offer a series of group mentoring sessions conducted via teleconference with "content expert" mentors. These sessions will feature informal discussion based on participant questions, as well as opportunities for additional learning and professional networking. Each 45 minute session will be held via teleconference and will be open to all mentees and mentors.
