State Presidents' Meeting
More than 30 state chapter representatives and the AMDA Board of Directors discussed issues
ranging from CNA retention to state chapter management during the State
President's meeting held in August in Denver. The purpose of the meeting
was to provide a forum for AMDA state chapter presidents to exchange ideas,
provide input, and make recommendations on issues of local and national
importance. The issues, which were identified via a poll to state chapters
prior to the meeting, were discussed in 12 work group meetings. Held on
Saturday, August 19, the work groups discussed the following topics:
- Infectious Diseases - VRE/MRSA
- Value of the Medical Director
- Survey Consistency
- Attending Physician Compliance
- State Chapter Development
- State Chapter Resource Guide
- New Chapter Handbook
- Medical Necessity of Therapy Services
- Standing Orders Immunization Program
- Medication Errors
- Public Guardianship and DNR Orders
- CNA Staffing/Retention
A wide range of recommendations resulted from these work group discussions
including the development of policy statements; dissemination of a survey
to state chapters; expansion of AMDA tool kits; and the establishment of a
resource group to assist new chapters.
Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to earn CME credits through two
educational programs sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Long Term Care Group
and Janssen Pharmaceutica.
All state chapter presidents recently were sent a packet of meeting
follow-up materials. If you have any questions or did not receive your
materials, please contact Meg
LaPorte at the national office.
