Message from the Chair of the House of Delegates
Prepartions already have begun for the 2001 AMDA House of Delegates
meeting in Atlanta. At the recent meetings of the Board of Directors
and State Presidents Council held August 18-20 in Denver, AMDA
leadership and most of the state presidents or their designees jointly
met and worked on some of the more pressing issues AMDA's members face.
The meeting opened with an update on the 2000 HOD resolutions and
activities that have occurred since March on these issues. State
leaders and delegates were pleased to see the many actions taken. On
Saturday, work groups met separately for intensive brainstorming
sessions on individual issues such as survey consistency, attending
physician compliance, infectious diseases, medication errors, CNA
retention, state chapter development, and other topics. Results of
these sessions were presented to the entire group on Sunday morning.
I think this forum served a very important function as a mid-year
infusion of energy, ideas, and issues from our state chapters to the
AMDA staff and leadership. Hopefully, this can become an annual
function. Many thanks to Johnson and Johnson Long Term Care Group and
Janssen Pharmaceutica for their support, which made this retreat
possible.
As each of your state chapters have meetings this fall and winter
and deal with the issues confronting long term care in your states, I
encourage you to develop resolutions to bring forth to the House in
Atlanta. Remember to focus on the important policy issues to give
direction to AMDA. Staff will be sending out information on writing a
resolution shortly. I look forward to seeing you in Atlanta.
