Isn't it funny how the weather so dominates our lives? From the
droughts in various parts of the country to recurring floods in others,
from summer hurricanes to the anticipation--and in some places reality
already--of winter snows, we have each experienced in the past few
months how so much of our time and energy is devoted to managing the
influence of weather on our lives. Just think how much more satisfied
we might be if that time and energy could be redirected to productivity
(or perhaps to relaxation? Naw, not for medical directors!). And when
you think about how much time and energy each of us reading this
devotes already to supporting the AMDA mission, wouldn't it be
wonderful if some of that redirected time and energy could be added to
our already magnificent efforts?
The more one has the opportunity to be involved with AMDA, the more
one has to be impressed with the work for AMDA that each of us squeezes
out of our already too-busy lives. And that work is a big part of the
beauty of the House of Delegates. The House is a very successfully
functioning part of our organization and the efforts of each member of
the House have been and will remain critical for that success. Casual
observation fails miserably to reveal the amount or intensity of the
work that goes on, year 'round, in the state chapters, in the AMDA
committees and by the AMDA leadership, and by the faithful and superbly
efficient AMDA staff, work that enables the House to function so well.
The super "busyness" of the holiday season is rapidly encroaching on
our poorly-equilibrated, already overly-busy lives. I encourage each of
you not to lose sight of the amount and timeliness of tasks which need
doing before we reassemble in March. It seems that an incredible amount
of work will need to be squeezed into the two months prior to our
meeting in Orlando. In particular, it is essential for the State
chapters to work on and submit resolutions in a timely fashion in order
to enable resolutions processing to proceed smoothly. Remember, the bar
for effectively managing resolutions was raised considerably last year,
and we are each challenged to continue that standard of excellence.
