AMDA.COM Update

AMDA Offers Web-Based CME

AMDA currently offers a series of web-based CME courses on www.amdacmedirect.com, AMDA's distance-learning web site for long term care physicians and medical directors. The seven programs cover clinical and administrative topics such as pain management, urinary incontinence, PPS, and compliance programs.

Caring for the Ages Articles on AMDA Web Site

AMDA and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, publishers of AMDA's monthly newspaper, Caring for the Ages, have forged an agreement that will allow AMDA to republish selected articles on our web site.

The articles from Caring will cover a wide variety of clinical and administrative topics and are expected to begin appearing in fall 2001.

Visit www.amda.com regularly for the latest information.

Initial responses from participants in AMDA's online CME programs have been overwhelmingly positive. All programs are approved for AMA-PRA Category 1 CME credit. These courses can be completed online or on CD-ROM. Advantages of this learning environment include:

  • No travel or hotel stay required.
  • Set your own pace; complete a course a little at a time or all at once.
  • Take a course anytime, anywhere (internet connection is not needed when taking a course on CD-ROM).
  • Courses include streaming audio and video lecture, synchronized slide presentation, and downloadable handouts.

Each web-based course is only $20 for AMDA members, $40 for nonmembers. All courses are delivered online, or you can order them on CD-ROM for an additional $8 shipping & handling.

One course, "Challenges in Pain Management: A Balancing Act," is free of charge for members and nonmembers. This course is ideal for physicians who wish to familiarize themselves with the web-based CME format.

If you have any questions or suggestions about AMDA's web-based CME programming, please contact Patrick Drews, Web Coordinator, at 410/992-3114 or e-mail to patdrews@amda.com.

AMDA.COM Design Update

AMDA's home page design has been updated to allow for improved access to web content. The main menu has been expanded to include direct links to:

  • Education & Meetings (web-based CME, annual symposium, management conferences, attending physicians curriculum);
  • Products & Publications (CPGs, JAMDA, LTC information kits, product catalog);
  • Government Affairs (Health Policy Advisor, legislation fact sheets, synopsis of federal regulations);
  • State Chapters (state chapter network, State Network News);
  • Member Services (membership updates, change your password);
  • About AMDA (medical director's role & responsibilities, leadership and staff roster);
  • Career Opportunities (career opportunities and professional development); and
  • Resource Library (white papers, model policy manual, AMDA by-laws, committees, resolutions and position statements).

Direct links are also provided to the AMDA CMD Program, the AMDA Foundation, and AMDA CME Direct (AMDA's web site for online CME). If you have any questions or comments about AMDA's web site, please contact Patrick Drews, Web Coordinator, at 410/992-3114 or e-mail to patdrews@amda.com.
