Rave Reviews for Attending Physicians Pilot
AMDA held its first Attending
Physicians Curriculum in Long Term Care pilot course in Atlanta, Georgia,
on September 8-9, 2001. The response from the 50+ attendees was extremely
positive and plans are underway for the next two meetings scheduled for January
12-13, 2002, in Portland, Oregon, and March 23-24, 2002, in San Diego,
California.
This one-and-a-half day course covers an array of topics that prove to be
invaluable for attending physicians practicing in the long term care arena.
Topics cover major issues affecting nursing homes, from increased regulations,
reimbursement, clinical areas, working and communicating with families, to
end-of-life issues. An understanding of these topics is necessary for physicians
working in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) in order to provide quality care
to our elderly population and to comply with the ever-changing regulations
facing them today.
This curriculum was designed in response to feedback received from state
leaders and members. You can support our efforts by spreading the word through
your chapter events, newsletters and websites, and by encouraging individuals
to attend. It is our hope to disseminate this curriculum on a wide scale and we
must have your involvement to accomplish this goal.
The registration fee for the meeting is $50 for members, $75 for nonmembers.
This course is approved for 12 hours of CME credit and has also been approved
by the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association,
and American Geriatrics Society.
Faculty training sessions will precede the January and March programs. For
further information or if you are interested in teaching the attending
physician curriculum, contact Carla Fiore, Education Program Assistant, at
