AMDA's 25th Anniversary Symposium is Taking Shape
Morton Kondracke, a Washington DC journalist for more than 30 years, will keynote the second general session of AMDA's 25th Anniversary Symposium
that is set for March 21-24, 2002, in San Diego, California. Kondracke
will share his personal experiences navigating the political and health
care mazes to seek help for his wife, who suffers from Parkinson's
disease. The program also will feature a policy update and a debate on
survey and certification with several long term care leaders taking
part.
Many workshop slots were filled by AMDA members submitting ideas for
presentations on both medical direction topics and clinical issues. A
brochure including program details and registration information will be
sent to all members in late November.
There is still an opportunity for you to take part in the
educational side of the meeting by submitting a poster for
presentation. The deadline for submission of abstracts is November 1,
2001. Abstracts can be submitted online or by mail.
If you have any questions, please contact Leigh Nelson, Meetings Assistant, at 410/992-3118.

As we begin preparations for AMDA's 25th Anniversary Symposium,
we wish to request your assistance as state chapter presidents with a
new feature being added to the 2002 program. Many first time attendees
to our symposium can be overwhelmed by the size of our meeting and the
amount of non-stop educational offerings. To assist our first-time
attendees in making the most of their experience in San Diego, we are
instituting a "Meeting Buddy" program. We are seeking AMDA members
attending the San Diego anniversary symposium, who will be willing to
share their knowledge and experience of previous meetings with first
time attendees.
The commitment from a "buddy" would require only a small amount of
time, but could have a large impact to a new attendee. The only
requirements necessary to be a "buddy" is prior attendance at AMDA
annual symposium(s), to be in attendance in San Diego for the 2002
Anniversary Symposium, an eagerness to assist a new attendee find their
way through the maze of educational sessions and to make your new buddy
feel welcome.
Individuals who wish to have a buddy assigned to them can check the appropriate box on their registration materials.
If you would like to volunteer or know of an individual(s) who you
feel would make a great meeting buddy, please contact Laurie Wilson,
Registrar, at 410/992-3116 or e-mail to lpwilson@amda.com.
If nominating an individual, we will contact him/her directly with
information regarding this program and request their help. Thank you
for any assistance that you can provide with this new program.
