Congressional Directory: New Resource to Assist State Chapters In Their Legislative Efforts
With the payment cuts enacted in this year's physician fee schedule, as well as new programs such as the Physician Voluntary Reporting Program (PVRP) and possible future reforms such as "Pay for Performance" (P4P), AMDA encourages its members to contact their congressional representatives and senators to ensure that physicians' voices are not ignored when making these decisions. For a letter to be most effective, however, it must be sent to the right place. It can be difficult at times to figure out which staff advisor for a particular congressman or senator handles healthcare
or health-related issues for that office, or where within that congressman or senator's office one should address correspondence. With this in mind, AMDA has purchased a copy of the Congressional Leadership Directory and is compiling lists of members of congress and their staffers who play key roles in the development of health policy.
State chapters are encouraged to contact Gaby Geise, Government Affairs Department, at 410/992-3145 or ggeise@amda.com if they would like more information on congressional contacts and correspondence. In addition to providing accurate contact information,
we can also assist with other questions involving the impact of specific federal legislation and regulations, as well as advice on the proper format for congressional correspondence and tips for writing effective and persuasive letters.
