CMS Clarifies Physician Use of Mid-Level Practitioners
Further clarifying physicians' use of mid-level practitioners in
nursing homes, CMS recently issued a memo to state survey agency
directors that replaces a similar one sent last April to the same
recipients.
The memo, entitled, "Physician Delegation of Tasks in SNFs and NFs",
provides clear and concise guidelines for nurse practitioners (NPs),
certified nurse assistants (CNAs), and physician assistants (PA) who
perform physician visits and write orders and sign certifications and
re-certifications in SNFs and NFs.
