A Call to Arms
Dr. Robert Webster of Georgia, one of AMDA's founding members, was one
of many to respond to the letter Dr. Steve Levenson sent to all state
presidents and delegates in 2000 (subsequently published in
Caring for the Ages) about the
forces that are guiding the long term care industry.
He urges us to monitor staff turnover and suggests that each state
chapter survey the homes in its state to see what turnover has occurred
in all positions--administrator, medical director, DON, housekeeping,
dietitians, laundry, medical records, attending physicians, pharmacists,
therapists, and nursing assistants.
"This gives a report by an independent agency that can be referred to
if needed, separate from the government, and lets the industry know
that there is a watch dog!" according to Dr. Webster.
