AMDA and State Chapters: A Mutually Advantageous Partnership
As state chapters develop and grow so does AMDA, making it easier for physicians to practice in the challenging long term care continuum. The partnership between AMDA and state chapters provides advantages to both. The following was developed by AMDA’s Membership and Communications department with information collected from the State Chapter Support State meeting held at the 29th Annual Symposium in Dallas. It may be helpful in understanding this partnership:
- State chapters contribute to strengthening AMDA’s voice on issues. State chapters help provide a wide geographic viewpoint on long term care related issues. Enabling AMDA to more confidently respond to regulations that impact long term care.
- Chapters may draw upon AMDA for specialized consulting and expertise in given areas (i.e., F-Tag 501, clinical guidelines, toolkits, advocacy). Through state chapters, AMDA can draw together an overview of diverse approaches for problem solving in the long term care continuum.
- An official communication flow exists between AMDA and the state chapters hence improving the climate for understanding and cooperative efforts between the two partners.
- Membership promotion activities are more effective through the affiliation of AMDA and its chapters.
- Continuing medical education for medical directors can be provided, replicated, and enhanced nationwide through the sharing of ideas, plans, and programs of AMDA and its chapters.
- AMDA with its state chapters constitutes an invaluable public relation effort for medical directors, making the American public aware of the essential role of medical directors.
Partnership with other groups and organizations is also valuable to both AMDA and state chapters. In fact, it is through collaboration and partnership among groups that ensure that the missions and goals of both organizations are met.
