Updates on F-Tags
This June, CMS will be placing an advanced copy of the new surveyor guidance for the medical director Tag on the CMS website at www.cms.hhs.gov/medicaid/survey-cert/letters.asp.
The advance notice to state survey agencies will allow state survey
agencies to train their surveyors and notify providers about the new
guidance before implementation. The guidance will not become effective
until CMS issues the guidance in Appendix PP, possibly four-to-eight
weeks after it's sent to survey agencies. AMDA has been communicating
with CMS about the Tag's release and will send an e-mail to state
chapters once the advanced copy is posted.
In related news, CMS has placed an advanced copy of the new surveyor
guidance for incontinence and catheters on the CMS website at www.cms.hhs.gov/medicaid/survey-cert/sc0523.pdf.
CMS will issue the guidance in Appendix PP and it will become effective
June 27, 2005. The April 14, 2005 CMS Guidance to State Survey Agency
Directors and CMS Regional Offices is entitled "Nursing Homes: Delay in
Effective Date for Revision of Appendix PP, State Operations Manual
(SOM), Surveyor Guidance for Incontinence and Catheters". Please refer
