Message from AMDA's House of Delegates Chair
State Chapters--are you there? Having heard from
not a single chapter between the San Diego and Orlando meetings, I was
beginning to wonder if I should seriously start searching for the
answer to that question.
But then: Orlando!
Yes, as it turned out, the House of Delegates meeting in Orlando was
another stellar occasion in AMDA history. The state chapters obviously
were there, and the representatives from the state chapters, the
Delegates, again rose to the occasion (both figuratively and
literally), conducting business, debating issues, and handling a
variety of resolutions and some "housekeeping" Bylaws changes with
continued and exemplary equanimity and efficiency. The excellent work
of the Resolutions Committee (with extra thanks to Dan Haimowitz, MD,
CMD, for his extensive, behind-the-scenes brokering of merged and
corrected submissions), and the expanded process (started by Randy
Huss, MD, CMD, last year) of having an open Resolutions Committee
meeting between the two sessions of the House, combined to create a
methodology for processing resolutions that was most productive and
effective. And special thanks to Ed Warren MD, CMD, for his superb and
faithful service as Parliamentarian.
But; State Chapters--are you there? For each, what
is happening in your state since the AMDA Annual Symposia? Do you have
meetings? Are you conducting business? Is your executive committee ever
meeting or discussing business? Are you dealing with issues that come
up in your state? Are you providing educational opportunities for your
members and others in the long term care continuum? Are you thinking
ahead to next year's AMDA Annual Symposium? Are you promulgating member
interest in presenting at the meeting or submitting a poster? Hint--are
you thinking about potential resolutions for submission to the House
next March? Hopefully, you can answer at least some of these questions
with a 'Yes!', but, please consider them all!!
