Message from AMDA's House of Delegates Chair
Rachel Carson, in part of her book Silent Spring, describes
the absence of the songs of the birds, usually so vocally beautiful
during Spring, related to the use of pesticides and other toxins. Well,
let me convey to you that this past quarter in 2002 has been a silent
Spring, inasmuch as I have not heard a peep from any State Chapter or
member. And while I have faith that the major contributing factor to
this silence is the toxin of time pressure, I also know only too well
from experience that time passes all too quickly and that it will not
be long before we are working and preparing intensively for our annual
meeting in 2003. Please keep this in mind as the summer evaporates and
we are into the busyness of the post-Labor Day sprint to New Year's. As
issues or items come to the forefront over the next six months, please
process them and bring them to our attention so that we can arrive in
Orlando with the best preparation possible.
AMDA staff, committees and leadership continue to work at full
intensity, and there is a lot happening at AMDA central. I encourage
you to log on to www.amda.com, and peruse the wealth of information
that is now available on our website. One of the more critical
processes underway is the reevaluating and updating of AMDA's strategic plan.
Review and feedback of this process is being solicited from the entire
AMDA family, and the website is the ideal place to find out what's
happening and to assist in this process by providing your input.
Here's hoping that by the time you are reading this you have had or
are about to have the opportunity for relaxation and renewal. Returning
refreshed fosters the recreation of functional and efficient
relationships in our personal and professional lives and facilitates a
recommitment to mission. Remember: working together to achieve our
mission is "where it's at!"?
