2003 Annual Meeting

The Program Planning Committee is working hard to put together an exciting program for 2003. The committee met in June to set the framework for the 2003 Annual Symposium. The theme for the meeting is "In Pursuit of Excellence: Redefining Long Term Care." The goal is to emphasize the importance of the continuum of care in a variety of settings. As you know, the Call for Presentations is out and the committee will reconvene in August to review submissions and continue the process of inviting speakers to participate in the program. Submissions can be completed online at www.amda.com/call2003. The deadline is August 2, 2002.

As usual, the program will schedule time for State Chapter Activities. Here is a brief overview of events.

An area in the exhibit hall will again be dedicated to the State Chapter Connections booth allowing state chapters the opportunity to recruit new members and display their chapter promotional materials. Look for a sign-up sheet in a later issue of State Network News.

In the past, some of our chapters have been approached by local industry representatives offering to host "events for the chapter" during the AMDA Annual Meeting. In particular they are offering to host the chapter during the State Chapter Meetings/Receptions on Friday night. As agreed at the State Presidents meeting in March in San Diego, AMDA seeks a sponsor to underwrite the cost of hosting all the chapters that evening with the understanding that Johnson & Johnson (J & J) will be the exclusive sponsor. State chapters agreed not to accept additional support from other companies or invite other companies to meetings during this allotted time.

Chapters may participate in offsite events hosted by industry on Friday evening after the J & J sponsored State Chapter Receptions have ended. These events must be promoted to chapter members through chapter communications, mailed invitations or room drops at the hotel. No signs or promotional flyers will be permitted in the hotel. If your chapter is planning to participate in such an event, please let us know in advance so we can help direct members to the appropriate venues.

If you have any questions, please contact Megan Brey, Director of Meetings, at 410/992-3127 or e-mail to mbrey@amda.com.
