Message from AMDA's House of Delegates Chair
As our state chapters move into our annual meeting cycle, it is time
to network and connect with each other and address the issues
developing out there on the front lines of long term care. As these
issues are discussed at the state level, it is important to identify
those with national impact or which warrant AMDA policy consideration
and channel them to the national office. There are several vehicles for
this, most importantly through development of resolutions for
submission to the AMDA House of Delegates (HOD) meeting. However, those
that may require AMDA's attention prior to the meeting in San Diego
next March, may be funneled through AMDA's website or listserv.
There is also a committee summit planned in early October, which may
serve as a mechanism for discussion and development of policy
initiatives for AMDA. It won't be long until the call for nominations
for officers and directors comes out. As you have your state chapter
meetings, be thinking of candidates to recommend to the Nominating
Committee.
Preparations are well underway for AMDA's 25th Anniversary Symposium
in San Diego. We must also do our preparations for the HOD meeting to
ensure a smooth and efficient meeting. In that regard, I encourage all
chapters to identify your delegates early and select a mix of
experienced delegates, as well as some "new blood" to keep the energy
level up and ideas fresh. The national office requests that each chapter send in their member list, to keep current records and assist with joint marketing efforts, to everyone's benefit.
When developing resolutions, if you have difficulty with format or
crystallizing the policy issues into a succinct format, please give me
a call at 573/364-4226, or drop me an e-mail at rdhuss@rollanet.org
and I'll be glad to lend a hand or refer you to someone who can. I plan
on continuing the Resolutions Committee format that seemed to work well
at the Atlanta meeting this year. I hope to take it one step closer to
a reference committee process, by encouraging testimony and input from
any interested party at the resolutions committee meeting following the
HOD briefing luncheon on Thursday.
I look forward to another productive and lively HOD meeting as your
Chair in San Diego. Remember that it is the HOD that gives the
grassroots energy and policy direction to AMDA. It is an important
charge, come ready to work.
