New Year: What Are Your 2007 Goals for your Chapter Leadership Team
Many take the time at the start of the new year to reflect and focus on new goals. Is it time to focus on your leadership team?
In 2007, it’s going to be critical that state chapter presidents work closely with chapter board of directors, committees and the executive director to meet chapter goals. Here are three things to commit to this year to make this year your leadership team’s most successful yet.
Job Descriptions
It is essential to clearly establish the role and responsibilities of each leadership position. Each leadership team member should have a written job description to ensure smooth chapter
operation. The general duties and responsibilities for the state chapter leadership team can be found in AMDA State Chapter Handbook.
In order to fulfill their responsibilities, the team also should be provided with the mission,
purpose, and strategic plan for the organization; a list of standing committees of the board and
description of each; the financial statements and current budget; the bylaws, and articles of incorporation; and other policies and procedures of the organization so everyone works from the
same foundation.
Train Future Leaders
Training future leaders is important to developing the leadership team. This month, think of ways
that the chapter can provide greater opportunities for developing leadership experience. Share
information from AMDA with your BOD and encourage them to get involved with AMDA committees.
Focus on Results
Make a commitment this year to get more results than ever. Don’t settle for the same results as last year, or the same glitches in state chapter programs. Find the spots that need strengthening
and work with your leadership team to improve. Don’t forget about the many resources AMDA provides state chapters.
