| Are You in Compliance? |
You must be able to answer YES to be able to vote at the HOD meeting at the 30th Annual Symposium. Your chapter must be in compliance with AMDA's bylaws to have voting delegates. This means that the national office must have the following items on file by Friday, January 26, 2007.
- Current state chapter bylaws
- Current state chapter membership list
- Annual report for each chapter (meeting minutes, chapter activities, dues structure, etc.)
For a copy of the annual report template visit click here. If you have any questions, contact Nicole

Message from AMDA's House of Delegates Chair
We are all excited about Catching the Wave at the 30th Annual AMDA Symposium in Hollywood, Florida. The educational and networking opportunities will be rich. Log on to www.amdasymposium.com for details and news about the meeting.
The AMDA House of Delegates (HOD) will meet twice, on Thursday, March 29 and Saturday March 31. We will elect officers and listen to reports. This is also the primary forum for the membership
to provide input and guidance to the national organization about their concerns. The resolutions you bring focus the HOD on serious, substantive issues. These resolutions can help shape policy, and they also can direct action at the national level. As of January 15, we have two resolutions pending: Position Statement on Physician-Consultant Pharmacist Roles and Collaboration in the Nursing Home; and Performance Review. An update to the White Paper on Hospice also is expected.
Resolutions to the 2007 House of Delegates must be submitted soon. They should be sent to Gaby Geise at ggeise@amda.com.
There are a number of steps that we take in processing these resolutions and time is short now. Here is a review of the step-by-step process:
- AMDA receives the resolutions.
- Resolutions are sent to appropriate committees and board members for review and to staff for analysis for fiscal impact on AMDA and to ensure consistency and identify potential conflicts with prior policy.
- The Resolutions Committee meets prior to the annual meeting of the House of Delegates to review the resolutions and comments.
- The Resolutions Committee makes edits and suggestions for format compliance and clarity.
- Suggested changes are sent back to the originators of those resolutions.
- The Resolutions Committee meets to review and agree upon the final resolutions.
- The House of Delegates is briefed on resolutions several days prior to formally convening at the annual symposium.
- The House of Delegates reviews and debates resolutions.
- Passed resolutions are implemented by the appropriate committee or staff.
If you or your state organization has any important issues to bring to the House of Delegates, I implore you to submit them soon. Make them well phrased and based in reality. Above all, they need to be "implementable." If there is a large cost associated, then this needs to be dealt with
creatively. You may contact me at e-warren@att.net to discuss this anytime.
REMEMBER: The moral high ground in all of our efforts is patient advocacy.
Edward S. Warren, MD, CMD Chair, House of Delegates
