Message from AMDA's House of Delegates Chair

Can't you just hear the Orlando Town Crier?

HEAR YE, HEAR YE! AMDA HOUSE OF DELEGATES MEETING ONLY A FEW WEEKS AWAY!!...

Yes, that's right, it's almost upon us, and hopefully everyone will be fully prepared and ready to transact the business of the House. Again this year we will have two sessions: the luncheon on Thursday wherein we will break bread together, receive a variety of reports and finalize the slate for elections to the AMDA Board of Directors (four positions this year--Vice-President, Treasurer, representative from the House of Delegates, and representative from the State President's Council) and then the second session on Saturday, wherein elections will be held, Bylaws revisions and Resolutions will be reviewed and voted upon, and other business of the House will be transacted.

...PEANUTS, POPCORN AND/OR OTHER SUITABLE BRAIN FOOD TO BE AVAILABLE!!

Participating in the deliberations of the House is hard work! Some of the issues or discussions get pretty complex. Particularly, by Saturday afternoon, cerebri have been teased and so squeezed that some extra sugar flowing through the pipes is quite helpful in facilitating a high level of alertness and mentation in the Delegates. Bylaws revisions for consideration this year appear not to be very controversial. As usual, there will be several Resolutions to consider. We will be looking at the "Role and Responsibilities of the Medical Director in the Nursing Home" from the Public Policy Committee; there are two resolutions concerning initiating the payment of a stipend for the President; and, there are two resolutions dealing with medications in long term care.

...GUARANTEED SEATING FOR ALL DELEGATES!!

Knowing how tired we customarily are, arrangements have again been made this year for each Delegate to have a seat and not have to stand during the session! To fulfill your responsibilities in enabling the success of the meeting, there are two primary duties involved for each state chapter: to have its Delegates arrive at the meeting in a timely fashion so that all may be seated and the meeting convene promptly at the appointed time, and to have each Delegate prepared so that everyone can efficiently participate in this important part of the process of running our organization.

Thanks to each and every one who has participated and who will participate in this year's House of Delegates meeting. See you in Orlando!
