New Implementation Tool Kit
Most health care practitioners and organizations are aware of AMDA's
Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and acknowledge their potential
value. However, many are unsure of not only how to implement them, but
how to evaluate choice of a guideline for a particular facility. The "We Care: Implementing Clinical Practice Guidelines"
Tool Kit is just what is needed as it provides all members of the
clinical/administrative team with very practical methods and
instruments to anticipate possible pitfalls, and then apply successful
strategies to overcome common barriers to successful implementation.
The tools and discussion in the kit provide unique assistance in the following areas:
- Answering frequently asked questions about CPGs
- Understanding the parallels between the CPG implementation process and the Total Quality Management (TQM) process
- Evaluating the CPG's relevance to the patient population
- Assessing facility readiness for CPG implementation
- Overcoming obstacles to CPG implementation
- Evaluating staff knowledge and skills relevant to implementation
- Assigning project tasks
- Measuring and tracking clinical and process outcomes
- Evaluating performance based on outcomes
- Communicating with clinical peers on guideline adherence
