New Educational Option for LTC Attending Physicians
AMDA's curriculum for long term care attending physicians,
our newest educational offering, has met with much enthusiasm from our
members. Our most recent program in Portland, OR had over 100
attendees. Plans to host another pilot in California on March 23—24
(during AMDA's Annual Symposium), are well underway with more registration forms arriving every day.
Our goal is to keep expanding the reach of this curriculum. We are
currently considering sites for two more programs in 2002. Both the
Atlanta, GA, and Portland, OR meetings were a success because of the
support we received from the AMDA Chapters in each state. If you are
interested in serving as a host for the curriculum, please contact Mary
Logan, Director of Professional Development at malogan@amda.com.
For individuals who may not be familiar with the curriculum, this
course is designed to answer the questions practitioners have about
making visits to patients in skilled nursing and assisted living
facilities. The target audience is the attending physician in long term
care and the specialist/consultant physician caring for patients in the
long term care continuum. This course will enable physicians in the
nursing facility setting to become familiar with common geriatric
syndromes and to understand documentation requirements, coding issues,
federal and state regulations that must be met for appropriate
reimbursement and citation free surveys.
This course provides an excellent opportunity for physicians to
receive vital information on thriving in the nursing facility setting
and to receive 12 credit hours in category 1 of the AMA PRA for as
little as $50. For more information, follow this link or call Carla Fiore at 410/740–9743.
