AMA House of Delegates
Arthur D. Snow, Jr., MD, current AMDA delegate to the AMA had a busy
meeting in June in Chicago, voicing AMDA comment and policy on over a
dozen resolutions including one on the Medicare three-day prior
hospitalization stay. AMDA brought this policy issue to the AMA in
December 1993 and it has surfaced again. This year, the resolution
passed calling for the AMA to work with the Secretary of Health and
Human Services to eliminate this requirement.
Daniel Swagerty, MD, MPH, CMD ran for an unexpected opening on the
Council for Medical Education. Although Dr. Swagerty was not known to
the AMA Delegates, there was much interest shown in his unique view
from not only medical education, but also from a geriatric and long
term care standpoint. While Dr. Swagerty did not win the election, he
laid an excellent foundation to run for a position on this Council at
the next election in June 2005.
