AMDA Mission Statement

medicine.
AMDA Education Committee/CME Mission and Goals
Education Committee
The Education committee mission reflects AMDA’s status as an ACCME accredited sponsor of continuing education. The committee is responsible for the oversight and development of education activities to expand the knowledge, skills, and competencies of physicians and related healthcare professionals who provide care and medical direction for residents in the long term care continuum.
Purpose:
The purpose of the continuing medical education (CME) program of AMDA is to support life-long learning of physicians and other healthcare professionals responsible for long term care through providing high quality continuing education programs to enhance knowledge and competencies lending to the delivery of quality care to long term care patients and residents.
Content:
The content of AMDA educational activities is based on continuous needs assessment conducted through activity evaluations, environmental scanning, expert opinion, and standards of practice, including practice guidelines. Education content is designed to expand the knowledge and skills of physicians who treat patients in long term care settings through national and regional dissemination of emerging information in clinical medicine and in leadership and management in long term care.
Types of Activities:
AMDA utilizes a variety of instructional methods and formats via live and on-line activities which are based on the desired learning objectives and outcome of the educational activity. Specific activities include: live conference with interactive and didactic presentations, core curriculum with audience response, live courses, self-assessment programs, training workshop, and print and on-line enduring materials.
AMDA provides joints sponsorship opportunities to support educational programs for its state chapters as well as other organizations with similar mission statements to provide quality CME activities. AMDA promotes and disseminates non CME products designed to support the goals and objectives of its educational programs to include protocols, clinical practice guidelines and toolkits, and other resources to support best practices in long term clinical care.
Target Audience:
AMDA’s primary target audiences are physicians, both medical directors who oversee patient care in nursing homes, assisted living, pediatric care and other long term care facilities and attending (primary care) physicians who follow patients into a long term care facility. Because care in the long term care setting is team oriented, secondary target audiences include consulting physicians and members of the interdisciplinary care teams, such as nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and nursing home administrators.
Expected Results:
The expected results of AMDA’s CME program include reaffirmation of practice approaches, increased physician awareness of emerging clinical, regulatory, ethical, and management knowledge, awareness of new concepts derived from research in long term care, opportunities for dialogue and debate on clinical and management topics in the long term care continuum, enhanced self-assessment and self-study, and promotion and support of reflection on current practice and change in practice behavior toward best practices in long term care medicine. AMDA consistently measures the effectiveness of its program through activity evaluations, pre- and post-tests, follow-up evaluations, and performance improvement evaluation.
