Each year, AMDA offers this course (formerly titled Advanced Course in Clinical Management and Medical Direction), that is specifically geared to the needs of physicians who have provided management and care services in the long term care environment. Unlike AMDA's Core Curriculum on Medical Direction, the Evidence-Based Course changes each year to meet emerging needs, to share clinical innovations, and to hone skills related to leadership and management challenges. In 2008, portions of the program will include: insights into strategies to manage violence and sexual aggression in patients with traumatic brain injury, research into the relationship between depression and mortality, and determining levels of competencies for decision making. Other topics under consideration are ethical challenges, leadership, and managing clinical presentations in an ever-increasing environment of cultural diversity in long term care residents and their families
Enhancements to this year's course are based on requests from previous participants. Roundtable discussions or Q & A with a panel of experts will provide lively interaction to sharing strategies and solve problems. Participants are encouraged to send in their burning issues, specific challenges in clinical or managerial areas. As the source of the challenge, you may stay anonymous, if you like. Send your ideas when you register, or by e-mail to Mary Logan at malogan@amda.com any time prior to the course.
Target Audience:
This course will meet the needs for professional growth of experienced medical directors and attending physicians. Content is applicable to any setting or combination of settings across the long term care continuum. Experienced medical directors with the CMD credential will find this course practical with implications for immediate implementation upon return home. Participation in this evidence-based course is an excellent way to earn 25% of the required management education hours for recertification.
