Long term care is provided in a variety of settings—individual homes, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and hospitals.
Having accurate, easy-to-understand information and strong relationships with your physician can help make sure your loved one gets the best possible care in a nursing facility or other long-term care setting. AMDA is committed to helping consumers and physicians work together to promote quality, individualized care for long-term care patients/residents. Toward that end, we have created this Consumer Corner to provide information you can use to discuss geriatric health issues with your physician and to start discussions about care choices and options.
Not only will the information on this page help you make decisions about what long-term care setting might be best for your loved one; it also will help you work with your physician to address care issues about end-of-life decision-making, dementia, memory loss, and other concerns that are common in elderly individuals.
AMDA urges you to use this information to talk about your loved one's care with your physician and to help you make informed decisions that will respect your loved one's wishes, protect his or her dignity, and make sure that he or she enjoys quality care and quality of life in a long-term care setting. AMDA members are your partners in care; and we are pleased to help you and your elderly loved ones with information, knowledge, and compassion.
