Session Description
This webinar examines the basic principles of biology of aging and their application to aging persons in health and disease. Topics include a review of aging processes and their interaction with the environment in the development of disease, frailty and senescence. Participants define the implications of these factors with regards to the dramatically increasing numbers of older Baby Boomers and how this "change" generation will impact care processes and functioning of the long term care facility.
Presenters
Alva "Buzz" Baker, MD, CMD is a certified geriatrician who has been a Medical Director since 1980. He served as Vice President for Health and Wellness Services for EMA until his retirement in 2009. He also was the Executive Director of The Copper Ridge Institute, and he continues to work extensively in the areas of research and education about care practices for persons with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive-impairing illnesses. He is a member of the faculty of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also serves on the Gerontology faculty at McDaniel College, where he holds the position of Director of The Center for the Study of Aging.

CME Designation Statement
AMDA designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
CMD Designation Statement
This program has been approved for 1.5 live hours in clinical education credits toward certification/recertification as a Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care (AMDA CMD). Physicians should only claim credit for the number of hours they participated in the educational activity. The AMDA CMD program is administered by the American Medical Directors Certification Program (AMDCP).
