American Medical Directors Certification Program (AMDCP) Certified Medical Director (CMD) Reinstatement Policy
Reinstatement is a mechanism through which a Certified Medical Director (CMD) can regain the credential after it has lapsed. It is established as an alternative to a requirement to reapply through the initial application process. Reinstatement follows the timeline below.
CMDs who do not submit a recertification application by the date of renewal will have a twelve-month grace period to recertify.
CMDs whose certification lapses after the grace period may be reinstated under the following conditions:
- Once the grace period has expired, the physician may not use the "CMD" credential until the reinstatement process has been completed;
- Applicant must write a letter describing extenuating circumstances and request a waiver to permit them to reinstate;
- If the Board grants a waiver, reinstatement will include immediate payment of $100 with a letter of commitment to recertifiy within twelve months;
- Submission of the recertification application with appropriate fee in twelve months;
- Education credit hours for continuing medical education (CME) and for CMD will be accepted for the last six years preceding the reinstatement application; and
- If the applicant does not recertify within the twelve-month time frame following the grace period, then he/she will be required to re-apply under the original application process.
